YouTube Junkie — part two.

by JerrellRenee on April 24, 2012

Over the last few months, I’ve built a quite impressive YouTube subscription list. And about 90% of the channels on that list are beauty channels. I love hearing a teenaged beauty vlogger wax poetic about how much she love love loves the Naked 2 palette as much as the next person, but my favorite channels are the ones by serious makeup artists.

I’m not even sure how I discovered Lisa Eldridge, but I am seriously SO glad that I did. Not only does she have the most soothing British accent I’ve ever heard (I could listen to her talk all day. No joke.), she’s a legit celebrity makeup artist who was recently named a spokesperson for Chanel beauty and counts Kate Winslet as a regular client.

You’d think that she’d be too busy to film YouTube beauty tutorials, or that when she had the time, she’d film these insanely difficult looks, but neither are true. She posts a new video every week and I find them to be accessible, easy to follow and extremely informative. She not only uses lots of different products in her videos, but she explains the differences between them and even gives drugstore alternatives when she can. My favorite videos are the “Basics” videos. They explain everything from foundation to contouring which makes them perfect for beginners like me.

I’m almost sad that I’m sharing my secret YouTube weapon with all of you, but I love my faithful readers so much that I’m not only “introducing” you to Lisa, but I’m also sharing a few of my favorite tutorials (a navy smokey eye, a soft, everyday look and a first date look). You can find the rest of Lisa’s videos on her website (watch here for a full product list) or on her YouTube channel. Hope you enjoy them!

Am I too dark for a navy smokey eye? I plan to start wearing more eye make-up…now that I know why I was breaking out and can, for the most part, keep it from happening. But I never really know how to do eye color with my skin tone. I always play it safe and stay in the brown family but I would like to venture out and add some color. Tips please! :)

You could definitely do a navy smokey eye. I wear navy eyeliner like 3x a week lol. Or purple would look amazing on you too. I think purple looks amazing on brown skin and against brown eyes. And if you wanna stick with browns, try doing metallic or shimmery browns just to change it up. Makeup party soon?!
