Workout Wednesday: Couple’s Workout.

Do you and your spouse/boyfriend/best friend have such busy schedules that you hardly ever see each other? Or do you see each other often, but find that you don’t actually spend time together. You’re just in a room talking (or not talking), but none of it ends up being quality time? If this describes your relationship, or even if it doesn’t, I would suggest working out together. Sudan and I have completely different schedules and we can go days without seeing each other because of it. So when we do have time, instead of just sitting on the couch watching tv, we try to run together. That means that sometimes, like last night, we don’t even begin our run until 8:30pm, but we get it done.

Some of my favorite moments with him have occurred during a run and I’ve found that the moments of running in complete silence are just as fulfilling as the moments when we’re talking about our days or planning our weekend. I even love the moments when he has to literally pull me up a hill because I’m trying to walk behind him. There’s nothing sweeter than having your boyfriend hold his hand out for you when you’re huffing and puffing and sweating and feeling totally embarrassed that you’ve been running longer than him and his endurance still smokes yours.

I just think that it’s really important to do something for our health as a couple and ultimately, one day, as a family. We’re both on a health journey right now that includes better nutrition and weight loss, and this is just one extra thing we can do together to further that goal. Starting now will ensure that it will be a habit by the time we have a bunch of little people to set healthy examples for.

So today I just want to encourage you to grab your spouse or your boyfriend/girlfriend (or your best friend if you’re living the single (and much simpler!) life). It doesn’t have to be a run. It could be as simple as a walk or even a bike ride. You could do a workout dvd together or take a beginner’s yoga class. Just do something together for your health. Your workout will be more fulfilling, your bond will be strengthened and if nothing else, you’ll definitely get in a good laugh.

The part where you said he reaches out his hand when you’re kinda struggling made me smile. :) He sounds like a catch!
