Remember how I mentioned that I decided to take up painting? Well, I’ve become full-on obsessed with it. Since last week I’ve completed about 10 paintings. And each day, I practice a little more and get a little better. I’m almost daring enough to say that I’m actually getting pretty good. Sudan has been begging me to sell a few since my little newbie art collection is starting to cover the floor of my apartment, but I don’t think I’m ready for that yet. Way too scary.
For now, I’m getting as much inspiration as I can from my favorite artists and planning my first legit art purchase this weekend. I’m working on a few smaller pieces for my apartment, but I want to purchase a larger painting to hang over my bed. I haven’t quite decided which piece I’m going to purchase yet (since my wishlist is about a mile long!), but I can promise it will come from one of the following amazing artists:
Jennifer Latimer is probably my favorite artist right now. I love that so many of her paintings are inspired by the colors and patterns she sees in runway shows and designer collections. The one above was inspired by Ellie Saab’s Spring 2012 collection. I’ve realized that I use gold and white in every single painting I complete because I love the light it brings into a painting and that’s what draws me to her work. You can purchase one of Jennifer’s fabulous paintings in her Etsy shop, Gilded Mint.
So technically Sarah Swanson doesn’t do large paintings, but I had to include her because her perfectly simple watercolors are just $10 each. TEN DOLLARS. I love them because they can add a little color to a desk or a nightstand even without a frame. You can purchase one of Sarah’s watercolor pieces in her Etsy Shop, Gallery Wall. And if you’re into home design, definitely check out her blog as well.
Chassity has been one of my favorite bloggers for a while now. When I first read about her decision to start painting, I knew I would love her paintings before I even saw them. The girl has impeccable taste and she loves color. While my closet may be full of black, I am obsessed with all things bright and colorful, especially when it comes to my home. I would describe her paintings as feminine and structural. I cannot wait to make my first Hang This, Wear That purchase! I’m trying to decide between Mae, Delaney and Jewel.
I just randomly stumbled upon Christine’s blog and Etsy shop and I am SO glad I did. For one, her paintings have taught me that you don’t need to have 20 colors in a painting for it to be beautiful. I spent the a few hours last night working on a few two or three color paintings and fell in love with everything I came up with. Christine’s shop is perfect if you’re looking for a super girly, super glam painting without the high price tag. Many of her pieces come framed and ready to hang which is a definite bonus. And her shop is called Wink of Pink. Love it!
I have plenty more shops in saved in my Etsy favorites, but these are definitely my top picks. Hopefully I’ll add my own shop to this list soon. Eeek!
