It’s Friday, I’m in absolutely beautiful Naples, Florida and today is the last day of my twenty-fifth year. I can’t even believe how fast this year went by, and I’ve found myself willing time to slow down these past few days. It’s funny how that changes. When you’re 9, you can’t wait to turn 10. When you’re 25, you want to stretch every minute out of that year. But before I get to that (tomorrow), let’s talk about the trip so far.
Originally, Sudan and I were scheduled to leave Virginia on Wednesday night at 10pm. We got there right on time only to find out that the flight was delayed until 2 am and we wouldn’t arrive in Orlando until 4. Despite the fact that we still had a 3 hour drive to Naples once we landed, we kept a good attitude about it. We had dinner, found a quiet little area in the airport to sit and watch the planes, and then the flight was cancelled. Ugh. No more good attitude. By the time we were rebooked, got a cab, and got back to my apartment, it was well past midnight and we had to be back at the airport at 6am. And I neeeed my sleep.
Only by God’s grace, I woke up on time and we made it to our morning flight with plenty of time to spare. I even got free Starbucks with a “we’re sorry for almost ruining your trip” voucher. The gate agent even moved us to an exit row in the front of the plane. We’re back in a good mood, and boom! We get on the plane and there isn’t even enough space for air to move between us. The picture below doesn’t even fully depict how squished we were because you can’t see the guy on the other side of me. And he wasn’t a small guy. Thankfully, I spotted an open seat after we took off. I jumped across that aisle so fast, I probably scared the guy sitting in my new row. Sorry, dude. It was a desperate situation.
Despite the whole travel ordeal, (I forgive you, United), we finally made it to Orlando. Sudan even let me pick the rental car and we stopped at my favorite sandwich place in the ENTIRE world: Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney. My cousin, David, calls it “a bed of sandwiches” and that’s probably the most accurate description ever. To top it all off, a few hours later we arrived in Naples and walked down to the prettiest beach I’ve seen in Florida. The water is gorgeous, the sand is white and the people are scarce. And somehow, it’s cooler here than it is at home.
I just finished eating my healthy breakfast (steel cut oats with strawberries and a little brown sugar) and I’m headed out for a run to the beach. Can’t have any fun in the sun until I get a workout in! Today is all about enjoying the last day of my twenty-fifth year, reflecting on all that I’ve learned and experienced and preparing myself for twenty-six. I’ll be back tomorrow with a Birthday reflection post requested by one of my most loyal blog readers and besties, Britnie!
Happy Friday dolls! Enjoy your weekends!
