Highlights.

This week was super busy, but also really fun. The weekend was all about birthdays. First, for my little sister Joi and kind of for me (since I was gone the weekend of my actual birthday). But since she’s holding on to the “baby” role for dear life, she forced everyone to acknowledge my birthday with a 30 second hand clap. And I’m not joking. Apparently she’s scarred by all of those joint birthdays we had when she was young.

Then on Sunday, a large portion of my family ventured across the bridge to the Eastern Shore for another birthday celebration. This time, it was for our 80 year old adopted grandmother, Nana.

Nana lives in this quiet neighborhood right on the water in Maryland and we go out to visit her and eat a crab feast every chance we get. Every time we go, she spends the entire night running around making sure we’re all ok, so it was so nice to celebrate her. Oh and did I mention that she’s my birthday twin? She likes to say that my parents had the good fortune of having their first child on her birthday. So cute.

Can’t have a highlights post without a forced couples picture. At least he’s smiling in this one.

The rest of my week was super busy trying to get everything done for school. I have a handful of endorsement classes to take before I can begin pursuing my teaching license so I’m planning to start those in the Fall. I also have to study for the Praxis I and the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment. Not to mention that I’m in the process of applying to be a substitute teacher for the coming school year. Oh..and did I mention that I’ll still be working a full-time job? The rent won’t pay itself!

I needed a calming activity after all of that, so after dinner last night, I pulled out my paint supplies and attempted my first abstract painting. Actually that’s not true, I attempted to paint last Winter once, but I was just getting a feel for it since I hadn’t painted since 8th grade art class. Last night, I wanted to create something. And I think I actually did it!

I started out by painting the canvas gold. And then I pulled out my favorite colors and just went to work. And I have to say, I’m absolutely in love with it. I love how all of the layers, and even the mistakes I made, came together to form this beautiful chaos. It’s the artistic version of my life! Can’t wait to go home and work on a few more tonight!

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!
