Some might say that I’m a little…scattered. I’m one of those people who is always starting something new, obsessing over a new hobby, or coming up with a new plan. And if I’m being totally honest, I really like that about myself. It keeps things interesting.
I told you, back in August, that I had taken up painting and that Sudan wanted me to start selling my work. I wasn’t ready then. My paintings weren’t good enough yet and it just seemed too scary to put myself out there like that. I’ve been working on it pretty steadily since then, and after a little encouragement from my Instagram followers, I finally decided to take the plunge.
I am completely terrified, but I’m also so excited. I’m motivated to keep honing my new craft and I’m flattered that people actually love my paintings. When I first started, I was so focused on what other “real” artists were doing. But eventually I realized that art is subjective. My paintings are completely focused on color. I want to create art that complements or elevates a space. Or just makes you happy when you look at it. I wish I had a meaning behind each one, but I don’t. I’m all about the look. And that works for me. I will continue to push myself and to learn more, but I’m done comparing myself to others. And if someone hates it, I totally understand. It’s not for everyone. And if not one of them sells, I’ll just turn my little studio apartment into an art gallery.
So with all of that said, I would love it if you would visit my Etsy shop today! I’m offering 10% off to all of my blog readers through November October 31st. Just enter the coupon code “GrandOpening” at checkout. And I’m also having a contest! I’m looking for a name for my shop. I want something cute and catchy, so put your creative thinking caps on! The creator of the winning name will win a custom 9×12 painting! You can enter as many name suggestions as you want for more chances to win.
And with that, I’m off to finish a few more paintings. To all of my East Coast friends, stay safe in Sandy!
